A Journey Across Africa's Heart

From Namibia to Zimbabwe

After an incredible adventure in Namibia, our African journey continued with a short 1.5-hour flight from Windhoek to Victoria Falls, in Zimbabwe.

This landlocked country, steeped in history and natural beauty, welcomed us with its vibrant culture and warm hospitality.

Zimbabwe has a rich past, from the days of the ancient Kingdom of Zimbabwe to its colonial history and eventual independence in 1980.

Known for its dramatic landscapes and wildlife, the country is home to some of the most remarkable natural wonders, none more famous than the mighty Victoria Falls.

Looking on the map, we found ourselves at the meeting point of the three incredible countries of our African trip: Namibia, Zimbabwe and Botswana.

Victoria Falls, or “Mosi-oa-Tunya” (The Smoke that Thunders), as it is known locally, is one of the seven natural wonders of the world.

As we arrived at the falls, the roar of the Zambezi River plunging over the cliff was overwhelming. The sight of the mist rising above the cascading waters, visible from miles away, was unforgettable.

This was a special milestone for us, as we had now visited the three largest waterfalls on the planet: Niagara Falls in Canada, Iguaçu Falls in Brazil, and now, Victoria Falls.

The Mosi-oa-Tunya stands out for its sheer size and power, stretching over 1.7 kilometres and dropping more than 100 metres. Walking along the pathways that snake through the rainforest, with the constant spray of water in the air, made for an exhilarating experience.

It’s a place where nature’s raw power is on full display, leaving you in awe of what this planet has to offer.

Finding Downtime Amidst Adventure

As much as we loved the thrill of exploring new places, taking a moment to unwind and recharge is essential when travelling.

Our accommodation in Victoria Falls was perfect for this, offering a beautiful pool where we could relax under the African sun.

This was our time to slow down, read a book, and enjoy some downtime.

One of the highlights of our stay was connecting with the locals. Zimbabweans are known for their friendliness, and we found it easy to strike up conversations and learn about their way of life.

A Sunset Cruise on the Zambezi

One of the most serene experiences we had in Zimbabwe was a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River.

As our stay in Zimbabwe drew to a close, we boarded a small boat and drifted gently along the water, watching as the sun sank towards the horizon. The golden hues of the setting sun reflected off the river, creating a picture-perfect moment that felt like the calm after the rush of adventure.

Hippos bobbed in and out of the water nearby, and we even caught sight of a few crocodiles lounging on the riverbank. The Zambezi is full of life, and the cruise allowed us to soak in the sights and sounds of the river without rushing.

It was the perfect way to end the day, with a cold drink in hand and nature all around us.

TRAVEL TIP

Packing Light with Jewellery as the Key to Your Style

When travelling to multiple destinations, packing light is essential, and jewellery can be your secret weapon for maintaining style with minimal effort.

By choosing basic, versatile clothing, you can keep your wardrobe simple, while letting your accessories take the spotlight. A bold necklace, statement earrings, or a stack of rings can transform even the simplest outfits into something special, making jewellery the key piece of your look.

This approach not only lightens your luggage but also gives you the flexibility to create different styles effortlessly throughout your trip, without the need for heavy or bulky clothing.
